Join Our Team as an Attorney at Axiom
We are seeking a Patent Attorney (Chemical Engineering / Chemistry Focus) to support clients requiring sophisticated intellectual property counsel in chemistry and chemical engineering–related technologies. In this role, you will provide strategic guidance on complex IP matters, including transactions, freedom-to-practice (FTO) analyses, and M&A support, helping clients protect and maximize the value of their innovations.
Responsibilities:
- Conducting freedom-to-operate (FTO) analyses and advising on patent risk and strategy
- Supporting IP aspects of complex transactions, including mergers & acquisitions, licensing, and due diligence
- Drafting, reviewing, and managing patent portfolios in chemistry and chemical engineering technologies
- Partnering with business and technical teams to align IP strategy with commercial objectives
- Advising on patentability, portfolio optimization, and competitive landscape analysis
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders and external counsel on high-value, strategic matters
Qualifications:
- 6–15 years of experience in patent law with a focus on chemistry or chemical engineering technologies
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (ChemE strongly preferred; not focused on biochemistry or organic chemistry)
- Strong experience with FTO analyses, IP diligence, and transaction-related IP support (including M&A)
- Demonstrated business acumen and ability to advise on commercially driven IP strategies
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree (or equivalent), active bar license
Preferred Skills:
- Experience supporting complex, cross-border transactions and high-value IP portfolios
- Ability to translate technical concepts into practical, business-oriented legal advice
- Experience working in a hybrid or remote environment and adapting to client needs
Compensation:
The estimated total compensation for full-time Axiom attorney roles is $104,500-325,000 per year and for non-attorney roles is $71,250-309,750 per year. Compensation decisions are based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience, skills, certifications, location, and business needs.
