Energy Regulatory Lawyer

We are currently seeking Energy Regulatory Lawyers to work with our global energy clients. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in energy law and regulatory compliance, with expertise in advising clients on regulatory matters affecting the energy industry, specifically matters related to pipeline safety and hazardous materials transportation regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal counsel and support to clients on regulatory compliance matters related to energy laws and regulations at the federal, state, and local levels, with a specific focus on PHMSA regulations governing pipeline safety and hazardous materials transportation.
- Monitor regulatory developments and changes in energy policies, including proposed regulations, rulemakings, and enforcement actions by regulatory agencies.
- Advise clients on regulatory requirements and best practices for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of pipelines and related facilities, including compliance with integrity management programs and emergency response planning.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Active bar license in the state in which you reside.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience practicing energy law, with a focus on regulatory compliance, preferably in a law firm, government agency, or corporate legal department setting.
- Strong knowledge of energy laws and regulations applicable in Texas, including PHMSA regulations under the Pipeline Safety Act and Hazardous Materials Transportation Act and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulations.
Preferred Qualifications (not required but considered advantageous):
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills, with the ability to effectively advise clients and advocate their interests in regulatory matters.
- Demonstrated experience advising clients on PHMSA regulatory compliance matters, including pipeline safety standards, incident reporting requirements, and regulatory enforcement actions.
- Familiarity with the Pipeline Integrity Management Program (IMP) requirements, including risk assessment methodologies, pipeline integrity assessments, and corrosion control measures.
- Familiarity with energy market structures, including electricity markets, natural gas markets, and renewable energy credit (REC) markets.
Compensation, Benefits & Location:
This role offers a range of competitive compensation starting at $155,000 and a highly competitive benefits package in the alternative legal services marketplace that includes health benefits, 401K and more.
