Join Our Team as a Utilities Lawyer at Axiom
We are seeking a Utilities Lawyer to support our clients, many of which are leading energy providers across the U.S.. In this role, you will provide expert legal advice and support to our clients in energy sector, ensuring compliance and mitigating risk. This position offer a unique opportunity to collaborate with leading clients, shaping legal strategies and driving business success. This is an existing vacancy.
Responsibilities:
- Advise on regulatory compliance and filings before state and federal agencies, including PUC/PSC bodies.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of utility-related agreements, including:
- Retail Electricity Supply Agreements, Load Serving Entity (LSE) Contracts
- Power Distribution and Transmission Agreements
- Interconnection and Grid Access Agreements
- Wheeling Agreements
- Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Contracts
- Master Service Agreements (MSAs)
- Smart Grid and Metering Contracts
- Provide legal support for rate case filings, tariff implementation, and utility procurement compliance.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external counsel on infrastructure, construction, and maintenance contracts related to utility assets.
- Support IT and digital transformation initiatives, including smart grid and metering technologies.
- Advise on legal matters involving investor-owned utilities (IOUs), public power entities, transmission operators, load aggregators, and large commercial/industrial utility customers.
Qualifications:
- 5–15 years of legal experience, with a focus on utilities, energy regulation, or infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of state and federal utility regulatory frameworks.
- Experience with utility-related contracts and regulatory filings.
- Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working in-house at an electric utility, power distribution company, or energy service company (ESCO).
- Background in infrastructure, construction, or IT contracting within the utilities sector.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to advise cross-functional teams.
Compensation:
The estimated total compensation for full-time Axiom attorney roles is $104,500-325,000 per year and for non-attorney roles is $71,250-309,750 per year. Compensation decisions are based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience, skills, certifications, location, and business needs.
