Location: Remote (must reside in New York, NY or Washington, DC). 

We are seeking an Export Controls Compliance Specialist to join our Global Trade Compliance team. In this role, you will provide expert legal and regulatory support to a leading global technology client (FAANG-level), ensuring compliance with export controls laws and mitigating regulatory risk. This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate on complex, high-impact matters at the intersection of technology, geopolitics, and international trade, shaping compliance strategies and driving business success. This is an existing vacancy.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining export controls compliance policies, procedures, and internal control frameworks.
  • Providing legal and regulatory guidance on U.S. export controls laws, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and related agency guidance.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to assess and respond to evolving export controls and sanctions requirements.
  • Supporting global export compliance initiatives, including process improvements and automation tools.
  • Conducting risk assessments to identify compliance gaps and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Advising on export classification, due diligence, and compliance training efforts.
  • Monitoring geopolitical developments and regulatory changes to assess business impact and provide practical compliance solutions.
  • Supporting export controls-related projects and responding to sanctions-related considerations across jurisdictions.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in export controls, international trade compliance, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. export controls laws and regulations, including EAR.
  • Proven track record of advising on export compliance, risk mitigation, and regulatory strategy.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree or equivalent (preferred but not required); candidates may be attorneys or experienced non-attorneys with relevant expertise.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working in or advising large technology companies or multinational organizations.
  • Familiarity with sanctions regulations and their intersection with export controls.
  • Experience with compliance program development, automation tools, or process optimization.
  • Ability to navigate complex geopolitical and regulatory environments with practical, business-oriented solutions.

Compensation:

The estimated total compensation for full-time Axiom attorney roles is $104,500-325,000 per year and for non-attorney roles is $71,250-309,750 per year. Compensation decisions are based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience, skills, certifications, location, and business needs.  Employees may be eligible for additional benefits, including health, dental, and vision insurance; paid holidays and PTO; flexible work arrangements; and professional development opportunities and tools.
