Challenge

Global retailer needed attorney with deep knowledge of trade compliance to draft export manual, but lacked experience in-house.

Approach

Axiom deployed a senior attorney with extensive knowledge of trade compliance to provide strategic guidance and draft an export manual. Working closely with the retailer’s Vice President of Compliance and the in-house team, the Axiom attorney assessed current export operations, performed a gap analysis, and developed a final set of export operational policies to ensure compliance with export compliance regulations.

Impact 

• By producing an updated export manual, the Axiom attorney had helped the trade compliance department and legal department leadership ensure compliance in a critical regulatory area, protecting the company’s reputation and business.
• Flexible hourly billing enabled the company’s trade compliance department to work with the Axiom attorney on an as-needed basis, including reengaging the attorney’s services to continually update and finetune successive versions of the manual.
• Legal department was able to do more with their existing budget by working with Axiom rather than paying the premium rates that outside counsel would charge for this sort of service.
