Since its inception in 2006, business has been booming for the company, allowing it to expand its global presence. However, this rapid growth caused a rare blip in its progress: As the company entered new markets, it needed unique legal support.
As the technology company set up shop in the European market, GCs needed to keep up with business growth and acquire legal support in multiple languages. Pressure was increasingly being placed on the in-house team. High-priority projects, such as short-term contract work in local languages tied to the company’s expansion into new territories, was putting pressure on the in-house team.
The initial scope for the Axiom partnership focused on finding a lawyer to enable the company to expand seamlessly into the German market. The lawyer needed to be fluent in German, possess contracts expertise, and have a deep knowledge of the country’s laws. Working with Axiom, the company was able to access regional expertise that was not available in-house and in multiple languages.
Based on the Axiom lawyer’s success in the German market, the Assistant General Counsel International worked with the Axiom business team to expand the flexible legal support from one to three lawyers working in the German, UK, French, Italian, and Spanish markets. To ensure successful engagements, Axiom worked very closely with the AGC during the lawyer selection and onboarding process. In order to structure the engagements effectively and stay in alignment:
In addition to ongoing legal support, Axiom headquarters employees are dedicated to ensuring existing engagements run smoothly and partner with the company to identify additional legal talent with the skills they need, when they need it.
Although the AGC had not previously worked with Axiom, he knew of the company’s reputation as an innovative solution that enables in-house teams to access world-class talent on demand.
With Axiom lawyers’ support, the company has expanded their business globally into Germany, Spain, France, the UK, and Italy. They’ve relied on Axiom lawyers’ expertise and knowledge of local laws to assist with contracts, SaaS, and data protection.
With Axiom’s support, the company was able to grow their international revenue by nearly 400% and their overall revenue by nearly 76% in 2019-2020.
The company started their engagement with one Axiom lawyer who provided German language expertise on commercial contracts.
August: The company continued to expand, and utilized the Axiom lawyer for additional SaaS support in Germany. The Axiom lawyer provided SaaS support in France, in addition to Germany.
October: An Axiom lawyer in the UK joined the team to provide UK SaaS support, contract, and GDPR expertise.
March: An additional Axiom lawyer joined the team to provide SaaS support in Germany.
April: An additional Axiom lawyer provided SaaS support in Switzerland and France.
