Intellectual Property Counsel

Axiom is seeking an experienced intellectual property attorney with strong knowledge of internet protocols and standards to advise on policies, protocols, and compliance for hardware and software and standard-essential patents. This role will require working hybrid, in either DC or the greater San Jose area.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as in-house counsel advising internal business, tech, and product teams on internet protocols and standard for hardware and software products.
- Oversee and ensure compliance with SEP obligations, including adherence to FRAND terms and commitments.
- Lead negotiations and draft licensing agreements for SEPs, ensuring terms are fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory.
- Act as the primary legal representative in interactions with standards-setting organizations, including the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), ensuring the company's interests are protected and that all required disclosures are made.
- Provide legal support for any litigation or dispute resolution involving SEPs, including working closely with external counsel and preparing relevant documentation.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admission to the state bar where you reside
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in intellectual property law, with a focus on patents and licensing, preferably involving SEPs and FRAND commitments.
- Must be able to work on-site 2-3 days per week in either DC or Silicon Valley, CA.
- Strong understanding of the technical standards development process and familiarity with the workings of SSOs such as IEEE, IETF, and W3C.
- Proven track record of successfully negotiating complex licensing agreements and a deep understanding of FRAND principles.
Compensation, Benefits & Location:
This role offers a range of competitive compensation starting at $190,000 and a highly competitive benefits package in the alternative legal services marketplace that includes health benefits, 401K and more. Axiomites predominately work remotely, with the exception that some clients require on-site presence.
