Ah, fall. We breathe a collective sigh of relief for the end of chick lit beach reads and big budget Hollywood blockbusters (as much fun as Bourne Ultimatum was and Daddy Day Camp… wasn’t) and prepare to nourish the famished culture vultures inside us. 'Tis the season for literary festivals, feasts for foodies and the best movies of the year. It’s one long High Holiday for high-brow hedonists and frankly, we can’t wait.
While terrific foreign, GLBT and short film fests debut at local theaters this season, you can support your local up and coming filmmaker for free as part of Grace Cathedral’s Fall Film Series: Bay Area Filmmakers You Should Know But Don’t Yet. Grace Cathedral, famous for welcoming believers of any faith or persuasion, is equally open-armed and -minded when it comes to providing a venue for creative expression. Screenings are free to the public and there’s no submission fee if you’re a budding film auteur yourself.
There’s a new film every Tuesday night at 7pm through the month of October, and each screening is followed by a Q&A and short reception with the director. Who knows, you might just shake the hand of the next David Lynch/John Waters/[insert your favorite filmmaker here]. Stranger things have happened (see any of the above’s films), and there’s no shortage of talent in this town. We think the possibility of indie street cred for life (Blue Velvet! Cry Baby!) is worth the trip... don’t you?

life before axiom: Winston & Strawn; Pillsbury; NYU School of Law; UC Berkeley
something you should know: I'm a trained classical Indian dancer. I just had my ‘Arangetram’ – a 2-hour solo recital in front of an audience of 350 people. It was exhausting, nerve-wracking and incredibly rewarding.
i became an attorney because: I’ll blame old Perry Mason reruns. For as long as I can remember I had this loosely-formed desire to be a crusading lawyer fighting the good fight.
if i weren’t an attorney, i would be…: Ideally, a writer; I’ve been working on a historical romance novel for the last year. To pay the bills, I’d probably be a psychologist doing family therapy.
guilty pleasure: Bad TV. I have a strange fascination with old 80’s sitcoms. Dance and work schedules had me eating late-night dinners in front of the TV and I got hooked. The Cosby Show is the only one I’m willing to admit publicly.
