We agree, the High Line is a pretty neat idea that will infuse some much-needed color of a different sort to over-urbanized and -stylized Chelsea and its environs. And sure, Central Park’s a never-fail, what with the Philharmonic serenading crowds of 50,000 for free and teasing us with unobtainable Shakespeare tickets (gotta give them credit for offering). But — psssst! let us let you in on a little secret: Riverside Park is where you should be spending the remainder of your summer days. Take a leisurely stroll with a loved one through the manicured gardens alongside the serene Hudson and forget that you’re in Manhattan. Challenge yourself to run the entire 4.5-mile stretch from 68th to 158th and catch the M5 back down Riverside Drive using the bus money you stashed in your shoe. Take the kids on a free tour of the Science Barge, a sustainable, floating urban farm and teach them that it is, indeed, easy being green. Bring a picnic basket, some beers and a few of your best buddies to Acoustic Sundays and watch the sun set behind some of NYC's best unplugged jazz and r&b musicians. Do old-school Hollywood heartthrobs make yours skip a beat? If the answer's "yes," don't miss Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid on August 22nd @ Pier 1 (70th st.).
This humble little stretch of the Hudson is brimming with activity yet considerably less crowded than those other parks.
Its competitors are green with envy.
